Getting started with Fovea
Your download should have started. If it did not, download Fovea 0.1.0 for Mac (universal .dmg, macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon and Intel).
Open it
- Open
Fovea-0.1.0.dmgfrom your Downloads folder. - Drag Fovea onto the Applications folder in the window that appears.
- Open Fovea from Applications. The Lens appears near the top of the screen and a ring icon appears in the menu bar.
- Add your first task from the menu bar icon, or press ⌥ Space to open the card.
The first time you open it, macOS says Fovea was downloaded from the internet and asks whether to open it. Choose Open. Fovea is signed with IDv4, Inc.’s Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so you should not need to change any security settings. If macOS refuses to open it at all, the download may be damaged: delete it and download again, or compare it with the published SHA-256 checksums using shasum -a 256 Fovea-*.dmg.
Or install with Homebrew
brew install --cask dciobanu/tap/fovea
Homebrew installs the same signed app and also puts the fovea command on your PATH.
Install the command-line tool
The fovea command ships inside the app. If you installed with Homebrew it is already on your PATH. If you used the .dmg, choose Install Command Line Tool… in Fovea, or link it yourself:
sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/bin
sudo ln -sf /Applications/Fovea.app/Contents/Helpers/fovea /usr/local/bin/fovea
Check it with fovea now. If Fovea is not running, the command starts it.
Connect your agents
Fovea’s MCP server is the same binary: fovea mcp. Agents can add, update and complete tasks and ask you questions; they cannot set what you are working on now.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add fovea -- fovea mcp
or add this to a project’s .mcp.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"fovea": { "command": "fovea", "args": ["mcp"] }
}
}
Codex, in ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.fovea]
command = "fovea"
args = ["mcp"]
Fovea’s Settings window (Agents tab) can copy these snippets for you.
Updates
Fovea checks the public release feed for updates and asks before installing one. It never interrupts a running timer to do it. You can turn the check off in Settings.
